Ben Wendorf is a senior on the Ashwaubenon boys’ basketball team.

Wendorf plans to attend either UW-Eau Claire or La Crosse and major in business.

In his spare time, he likes to play and watch sports, hunt and fish.

What is it like to be a leader on the basketball team at Ashwaubenon? “It’s an absolute honor. In the moment, it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but when I step back and think about it, this is the team that I grew up watching and cheering on.”

What is your most embarrassing moment ever in basketball? “It would probably have to be during summer league going into my junior year. We were on defense and the guy I was guarding began to drive. He pulled back, and as he did that, I stepped on my own shoe and fell.”

What is your favorite college basketball team? “The University of North Carolina Tar Heels.”

What is your most memorable moment? “When I scored 30 points at Bay Port during my freshman year. Everything seemed to click – it was amazing.”

Final Four or NBA Finals? “Without a doubt, the Final Four. Ever since I was a kid, my biggest dream has been to play in the Final Four.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? “I would be Steph Curry. It would be so much fun to be able to shoot like that, even if it would be for only one game.”

Which do you prefer: a 43-42 defensive game or a 102-101 game in which you win both? “Although it is nice to stop your opponent, I would rather play in a game where both teams are shooting lights out.”

Do you have a nickname or something a teammate calls you during a game? “Everyone calls me ‘Doof.’ There really is no reasoning for it other than that the end of my last name kind of looks like doof.”

What is one thing that other teammates or coaches don’t know about you? “I used to participate in Destination Imagination (DI) when I was in elementary school. DI was an extracurricular activity that allowed me to experience teamwork outside of sports.”

A triple-double, a 50-point game or a big win over a rival? “I would rather get a big win over a rival. One of the most fun games last year was when we beat Southwest at home.”

Winning individual honors or a big playoff team basketball win? “I would much rather get a big playoff team win than receive individual honors. The buzz in the locker room after a big win is unlike anything else.”

What is your favorite type of music? “I like hip-hop/rap. Some of my favorite artists are Lil Uzi, Drake, Trippie Redd and Post Malone.”

What is your favorite thing to do on your phone? “Go on Twitter.”

What three words describe you? “Compassionate, respectful, resilient.”

What is your favorite trip ever taken? “When I went to North Carolina in the second grade. While down there, I went to a Wake Forest and a North Carolina basketball game. I also got to tour the Duke University basketball facility.”
