Brianna Zablocki (ZA-BLOCK-EE) is a senior at De Pere High School on the girls’ swimming team.

A three-time, WIAA state qualifier, Zablocki is hoping to get back to Madison in three events Nov. 9-10.

In her spare time, she likes to spend time with family, kick the soccer ball around with her younger sister and watch movies.

Zablocki is not quite sure where she will attend college quite yet, but she plans to swim and possibly study environmental science.

Tell me about your family.

“I have four siblings. My oldest sister Kristin is 23 and she’s a nurse, my older brother Jackie is 19 and a sophomore at UW-Milwaukee, my younger sister Danika is 15 and a freshman at De Pere with me and my youngest sister, Izzi, is 12, and she just started the seventh grade. My dad went to Southwest High School and my mom is from Kohler.”

Do you come from a sports/swimming family?

“Both of my parents did sports when they were younger, and Danika swims with me on the team and also plays soccer. My mom did basketball and track in high school and college. Kristin swam for UW-Milwaukee and Jackie is currently swimming there. Izzi also swims.”

How about a high school sport you wish you would have done?

“I might do track this spring – I did shot and discus in middle school.”

How many years have you been involved with swimming?

“I’ve been swimming competitively since I was 6.”

Tell the reader how hard a swimming practice is.

“A lot of people don’t realize we do more than just swim our actual events. We practice all of the strokes and distances. It’s a lot of swimming in a two-hour block. I never leave practice not being tired.”

What would you score in a dive?

“Probably a zero. I can do a flip, but half the time I land on my face or back.”

How about a stroke you wish was easier for you?

“I struggle with the backstroke.”

Do you have a most memorable swimming moment?

“When I got to go to state my freshman year, just because it was a really cool experience and the energy was very high.”

An embarrassing one?

“Nothing in particular, but I can never remember what number we are on in our swimming sets. I always ask and it probably annoys my teammates.”

What three words best describe you?

“Focused, laid-back, friendly.”

What is your favorite state and why?

“Michigan because we go camping there and the view of the lake is awesome.”

Finish this sentence: On Sunday mornings you can usually find me …

“Sleeping in bed.”

Dogs or cats?

“Cats.”

Lie on the beach or ski down the slopes?

“Ski down the slopes.”

Read the book or watch the movie?

“Watch the movie.”

Carpet or hardwood?

“Hardwood.”

Sunrise or sunset?

“Sunset.”
