Girl donates birthday funds to Ashwaubenon K-9 program

ASHWAUBENON – A nine-year-old girl has donated the money she received on her birthday to Ashwaubenon Public Safety’s K-9 program.

Mariah Weiss came Wednesday, July 11, to the Ashwaubenon Public Safety building to give Officer Mackenzie Teske, the K-9 handler who was with K-9 Ole, an envelope with $600 in it.

When the girl had a birthday party in April of this year, instead of getting presents, she asked for donations so that she could give the money to an Ashwaubenon Public Safety program and chose the K-9 unit.

A paw plaque will be hung in the lobby of the public safety building with the name of the girl’s choosing on it to commemorate her gift. She was also given a gift bag in return along with an Ashwaubenon K-9 shirt, though she wasn’t expecting anything in return.

K-9 handlers from around the area showed up to thank the girl and her family and to give them a demonstration of what these dogs can do.

Ashwaubenon’s K-9 program is funded by donations from the community.
