Howard offering farmers market on Tuesdays

By Press Staff

HOWARD – People looking for produce and crafts in Howard have a new option.

The Village of Howard Farmers Market runs from 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Sept. 25 at the Howard Village Center, just off Cardinal Lane, behind the Howard YMCA.

“The whole purpose really is to give Howard people something in their own little village, somewhere to go, somewhere to socialize,” said Kimberly Bergemann, market coordinator. “We’re really trying to open up that new area in Howard by the Howard Commons, but it’s so new, so not a lot of people know it’s there.”

This is the third year the market has been happening.

It has also grown beyond produce to include, crafts, food trucks and music.

Bergemann said vendors include personal products like essential oils, crochet and knitting vendors, yard art and lots of crafts, plus crafts and food for kids.

“There’s so many different vendors that appeal to the kids, even if they have just a couple of bucks to spend,” Bergemann said. “There’s ice cream, there’s food, there’s slushies, lots of open spaces, so the kids are safe, they shut the block down for traffic too.”

She said the Village of Howard Farmers Market offers a family-friendly alternative to the Wednesday farmers market on Broadway in Green Bay.

Thanks to a donation from BayCare Clinic, the Village of Howard Farmers Market features live music at every event this year as well.

One thing Bergemann said she would like to improve on is the local produce offering. But due to many farmers markets around the area, she said it’s been difficult.

“We’re trying to recruit, but we need to figure out where the gap is and how to get them into Howard,” she said.
