SUAMICO – The weather outside is frightful, but the Bay Port boys’ and girls’ track and field teams can run indoors.

That’s exactly what the Pirates did Apr. 5 when they hosted a five-team invite inside Bay Port High School. Both teams easily outdistanced themselves from their nearest competitors to win the meet overall.

The boys’ 148 points was 82 points better than Green Bay Notre Dame’s total, while the girls finished 45 points ahead of the Tritons as well.

BOYS: Two time individual state champion Cordell Tinch was a double winner by taking the 55-meter hurdles (7.67) and the high jump (6-6). Tinch won the hurdles by nearly seven-tenths of a second and the high jump by eight inches.

The Pirates finished 1-2-3 in the 55-meter dash, with Noah Stascak (6.96), Matt Ashley (6.98) and Dylan Grosskreutz (7.02) completing the sweep.

Bay Port also swept the 400-meter dash in impressive fashion, as Garrett Mooren (57.02), Isaac Krause (57.38) and Trevor Buth (57.60) gave the team another 18 points towards its team total.

The 4×160-meter relay team of Ben Giese, Stascak, Ashley and Grosskreutz won overall in a time of 1:19:47, while Lamont Wendricks was victorious in the 200-meter hurdles (29:54).

Isaac Vieau came across the line in 25:11 to win the 200-meter dash and the 4×400-meter relay team of Mitchell Merhalski, Andrew Thomas, Justin Howe and Austin Granius clocked in at 3:50:75 to also win overall.

Griffin Hawley closed out the results after he won the triple jump by nearly two feet (38-09.00).

GIRLS: The only overall winners on the girls’ side of things were Keegan McGlachlin in the 200-meter dash (29.62), Ella Meeuwsen in the high jump (5-03.00), Olivia Mabry in the pole vault (11-00.00) and Caitlyn DeValk in the shot put (34-04.00).

The Pirates got numerous second and third-place finishes to add to their total.
