Jaguars Student Spotlight: Michael Rottier-Baseball

By Murray Gleffe, Correspondent

Name:            Michael Rottier

Activity:         Baseball

Michael Rottier was a second team selection in the Fox River Classic Conference as a Junior where he not only starred on the mound but hit over .380 with 18 dings and 13 RBI’s.

As a senior, Rottier will be asked once again to provide leadership as a main pitcher in key games and help the Jaguars to a high finish in conference and beyond.

What is it like to be a leader on the baseball team at Ashwaubenon High School? “Being a leader is really reassuring. To know my teammates and coaching staff trust me on and off the field means a lot. It also contributes to a level of confidence. As a leader, one has to act in a certain manner for the betterment of the team; putting us in the best possible position to win games.”

How many years have you been involved in baseball? “I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old.”

What is your most memorable moment? “Last year’s first regional playoff game against Notre Dame was the most memorable of my career to date. The coaches trusted me as a junior to finish out a one run game in a clutch situation with the season on the line. It means a lot to me now that I reflect on it. It was definitely the cherry on top, and a moment I won’t forget.”

What’s the hardest part about a baseball game? “The mental aspect of the game is definitely the hardest. In a game (where getting a hit only 50% of the time is an incredible feat) it can be really hard and take its toll throughout the season with frustration.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? “I would be Jim Shockey, from “Jim Shockey’s Hunting Adventures”, as an avid hunter I think it would be interesting to have his knowledge and memories about the many animals and scenarios he has hunted in. Being able to travel the world doing something you love like Jim does would be so rewarding.”

What are your college aspirations? “Next year I plan on attending the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to pursue a degree in finance.”

What would your dream job be once you graduate? “I’d really enjoy a career as a Financial Manager. Having the responsibility of the monetary resources of a company would be really rewarding.”

What are your hobbies? “I really enjoy hunting, fishing and the outdoors in general. I also enjoy hanging with friends and watching sports.”

What is your favorite event ever attended? “A group of friends and I went to the three-day Horizon League basketball tournament when UWGB hosted it. We saw a bunch of good games, and the atmosphere was insane especially in the championship game with a trip to the NCAA tournament on the line.”

What is your favorite type of music? “Rock is my favorite type of music on an everyday basis. I find rap good to listen to before games as a way to get focused and pumped up.”

What is your favorite thing to do on your phone? “Listen to music and go on social media.”

What three words describe you? “Dependable, competitive, genuine”

What is your favorite trip ever taken? “My favorite trip was to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee last year with the baseball team. It was a really cool experience to share with the guys. It had incredible views, and scenery. The lodge we stayed at had a rustic, homey log cabin feel to it. Waking up in the morning seeing the iconic Smokey Mountain smoke roll in was definitely a sight to see.”

Comments on Michael Rottier: “Michael just loves the game of baseball,” says Jaguars Baseball Coach, Jay Krueger!  “He works on every aspect of his game whether it be pitching, fielding or hitting.
