Jaguars Boys Track and Field Preview: Steward wins High Jump in Oshkosh

By Murray Gleffe, Correspondent

ASHWAUBENON-The first event of the spring season has officially begun!

Track and Field went indoors this past week and Noah Steward came away winning the High Jump with a 6-02.00 leap!

He finished 16th in the High Jump at State as a Junior and hopes to improve on that finish.

“I’m really proud of Noah for what he achieved out of the gate,” said Cal Kromm, Jaguars Track and Field Coach.”He has worked very hard in the offseason to get better knowing full well that the Sectionals are extremely tough in his event (high-jump).”

The Jaguars finished 3rd in the FRCC Meet, Regionals, and Sectionals, before taking 5th at the WIAA State tournament.

Tannor Wagner is irreplaceable, but on the track, Randy Johnson qualified in the 1600 Meter Run last year at State as a Sophomore and hopes to add more to his repertoire by June!

In addition to Steward and Johnson, the Jaguars return one of the state’s best sprinters in Senior Jose Guzman.

In 2017, he won the State Championship in the 200 Meter Dash and finished Runner-up in the 400 Meter’s.

He will no doubt be hard to beat in June in LaCrosse for both events.

In the past the Jaguars have enjoyed success in the relays and they will once again assemble a speedy bunch for the 4×200 and 4×400 races

“We have some really talented field performers, sprinters, and distance runners this season,” added Kromm. “Obviously everybody talks about Jose for what he has accomplished but I expect big things from Randy, Kevin (Liu), Noah, Anthony (Boyd), Katayen (Gardner), along with some very talented newcomers we have assembled in 2018. We prepare our indoor and outdoor competition for the post-season. The ultimate goal for these athletes is to get to State, and for some it is to win the whole thing!”
