Ashwaubenon Nordic’s Adler second overall at Wisconsin State

CABLE, Wisconsin – Ashwaubenon Nordic went to the State Championship Meet in Cable on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10 and 11, with high hopes.

The Birkie Trailhead venue was well covered with natural snow and excellently groomed. Conditions were cold and clear.

Ashwaubenon high school boys were first after the first day of skiing and hung on for second place overall.

Jackson Adler (Green Bay East) was two seconds off the top step of the podium.

His time for the combined classic and freestyle races was 34:04.

On Saturday he claimed the top step with a one tenth of second lead.

Ryan Thieme (Bay Port) was 11th , 2 tenths of a second out of top 10 honors.

Kyle Thieme (Bay Port) was 14th and Daniel Huhtala (Ashwaubenon) was 19th.

Joel Haas (Notre Dame) was 26th and Christian Berkovitz (Bay Port) placed 28th in a field of 124 competitors from across the state. Alex Lukens (Ashwaubenon) finished 38th.

The boys team will lose three seniors next year and three Ashwaubenon freshman are working to make their marks.

Kevin Johnson skied to 45th, Sam Calaway to 77th and Clayton Monfils to 86th.

First year skier Mason Vinoski (Ashwaubenon) got a taste of the big show, finishing 114th.

On the high school girls side, Abigail Jarzin finished in 4th place in both her races.

Kate Stumpf (Notre Dame) finished 15th in the pursuit competition. Ashwaubenon freshman, Kait Behm, completed with girls team in 58th place out of field of 108 high school girls.

Grant Rocheleau (Bayview Middle) was Ashwaubenon’s middle school racer. His finish was 8th place out of 91, fast enough to put him in the state’s top 10.
