Jaguar girls golf recap and all-conference honors

First year Head Coach Kevin Penza knew it would be a process when he took over the program in 2017.

His first year included having two individuals qualify for Sectionals, and having multiple returnees back in 2018.

The Jaguar girls golf team finished in seventh place in the ever difficult FRCC.

Sophomore Rylie Severson was a model of consistency all year. She played in the number one spot for the Jaguars and finished with a 50.17 average in conference after shooting rounds of 51, 49, 53, 48, 51, and 49.

After conference play, Severson took her game to Regionals where she shot a 103 good enough to qualify for Sectionals. What was impressive about her final total was that she closed with a 47 at Brown County Golf course on a very windy day.

She then went out to Sectionals, with nothing to lose, and shot 97 at Thornberry Creek-host of the LPGA Oneida Classic.

It was good enough for a 14th place finish out of a total of 48 golfers.

Severson took her game to the next level in her second year of high school golf after playing three to four days a week at Hilly Haven during the summer months.

For her efforts, she was named Honorable Mention by the coaches.

Zion Estano complemented Severson well.

She played in the second slot and had many good rounds on the season including a 108 at Regionals which got her into a playoff for the last Sectional qualifying spot. She took full advantage and won the one-hole playoff by three strokes to advance.

At the Sectional, Estano shot a 103 which included a front nine score of 46.

Estano is known for her ability to string together multiple pars at any given time on a golf course.

She will be back for her senior season, and will look to improve her individual game but the team’s as well.

Other varsity members included Mariah Hermsen, Abby Moynihan, Lauren Haen, and Sadie Schmitt
