The Jaguars are coming off a Sectional Championship, and 9th place finish (90 points) at the 2016 WIAA Division 2 State Championships. Three seniors will anchor Coach Jennifer Steffel’s lineup in 2017.

“I lost two seniors, but gained many freshmen that I am sure will contribute to our success,” said Coach Steffel. “I have a large group of seniors back that were much of the reason we were so successful last year.”

Emma Steffel returns after finishing 5th in the 100 Yard Backstroke, 6th in the 200 Yard Freestyle, and 5th down at State as part of the 200 and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay races.

Kyra Goedken took 11th in the 100 Yard Butterfly and was part of the two relay teams as well.

Katherine O’Connell completes the trio of outstanding swimmers. O’Connell was part of both relay teams and swam an array of races during the course of the 2016 season.

The Jaguars will look to better their 3rd place finish in the FRCC (4-3) behind DePere and Bay Port. This year the Jaguars will be swimming full-time in the new Ashwaubenon Pool and will host the Sectional Tournament.

“I am glad they decided to let Ashwaubenon host the Sectional Meet,” Coach Steffel said. “It was initially assigned to Sturgeon Bay at the YMCA facility they train at. A lot of work goes into running and managing a meet like this, and I have a great group of parent volunteers that help coordinate big tournaments.”

Coach Steffel has 20 athletes signed up and works closely with Aquatics Director Melody Escoto on a program schedule that accommodates their training needs. “Ideally I would like to have 20-25 girls on the team ranging from all-state to beginner junior varsity. The long rang goal would be to not have to worry about numbers with the world class facility we have to utilize,” Steffel said.
