Young Triton team grows confidence early in season

Posted

GREEN BAY — An 8-0 win for the Notre Dame Academy Tritons over Freedom brings the youngest girls soccer roster in school history some confidence early in their 2025 season.

“It is the youngest team in Notre Dame History. We have 7 freshmen and they scored 5 goals tonight, played well and built up some confidence. They are starting to gel as a unit,” said head coach Nick Browne.

Junior Teya Bordini set the tone for the game with the opening goal on an unassisted inswinger corner kick for the 1-0 lead in the 10th min.

Just three minutes later, senior Lacey Fabry lengthened the Triton lead to 2-0 after carrying the ball down the left wing and ringing it for a near post shot.

“With the upperclassmen there are a lot of opportunities for leadership roles and taking some of these underclassmen under their wings. With the freshmen —- they’re a talented group. It’s just a matter of getting into our system and figuring out how we do things, making it their own and getting a little bit creative,” said Browne.

Freshman Lillia Stachura found herself in a 1v1 situation in the 17th minute and was able to poke in a goal for the 3-0 lead moments later.

Junior Charlee King whipped a header into the net off of Bordini’s corner kick in the 23rd minute to keep up the momentum for the Tritons.

Just two minutes before the half, Fabry netted her second goal of the game when she intercepted Freedom’s goal kick for far post shot bringing the score to 5-0.

“I think we played pretty well but we have a lot to clean up. There are a lot of arrant passes and turnovers. Obviously the goals were there, so we did a nice job in the final third and finished, but still a lot of work to do,” said Browne.

Stachura continued her hot streak in the second half with a far post goal in the 42nd minute for the 6-0 lead, giving way to a more aggressive second half as Freedom continued to battle.

Yet, Stachura secured a hat trick with her 65th minute goal on another 1v1 to bring the score to 7-0, also securing 3 assists on the game for Abby LaMere.

Evelyn Myrda rounded out the game with the final goal to bring a premature end to the game with an 8-0 final with 16 minutes remaining in regulation.

“We’ve got a little bit of work to do in the back, and we need to make sure to gel, but we do have four starters that are freshman. That’s a big thing and uncharacteristic of Notre Dame, but the players are solid,” said Browne.
