WIAA postseason hockey brackets released; Ice Bears ranked No. 1

BROWN COUNTY – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association recently released the postseason boys' hockey brackets.

Locally, in Division 1, Notre Dame Academy (15-5-3 overall), the No. 4-ranked team in the state, received a No. 1 seed.

Ashwaubenon (3), Bay Port (4) and De Pere (6) also received high seeds.

In regional matchups Tuesday, Feb. 15, Bay Port (16-8) will host No. 13 Shawano, while De Pere (11-12-1) will host No. 11 Oshkosh North.

Notre Dame will host a regional final game Thursday, Feb. 17, against the winner of No. 8 Beaver Dam/No. 9 Sheboygan South.

Ashwaubenon (18-5) will also host a regional final game Feb. 17 against the winner of De Pere/Oshkosh North.

The sectional final is Friday, Feb. 25, at the Cornerstone Community Ice Center.

The state tournament is Thursday-Saturday, March 3-5, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

Bay Area Ice Bears ranked No. 1

GREEN BAY – The Bay Area Ice Bears, a co-op girls’ hockey team consisting of athletes from six area high schools – Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Pulaski, Seymour and West De Pere – is ranked No. 1 in the state.

The Ice Bears (21-2-1) recently won the Eastern Shores Conference tournament with a 5-3 victory over the Fox Cities Stars.

Bay Area, which is averaging 5.2 goals per game, has won 11 consecutive games and recorded nine shutouts this season.

The Ice Bears earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association postseason and will host the winner of No. 4 Cedarburg/No. 5 University School of Milwaukee Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Cornerstone Community Ice Center.

The state tournament is Thursday-Saturday, March 3-5, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
