BELLEVUE – VEG ER for Pets announced the opening of its new location at 2234 Monroe, Rd, Suite 150, in Bellevue last week with a ribbon cutting.
VEG ER for Pets will provide families in the greater Green Bay area with highly skilled emergency veterinary care, including surgeries, ultrasounds, x-rays and more — something the area has been missing since the closure of BluePearl Pet Hospital’s Green Bay location last year.
“The vision really is simple,” said Nursing Manager Kelly Jaeger. “It’s to be the hospital in Green Bay that provides the best care and is a trusted place and a partner for people to bring their pets when the chips are down — when you’re having the worst day of your life. I’ve been in this community practicing emergency medicine solely for about 15 years and my heart broke when we lost the services here. I’m proud to bring what I love to a community that I love.”
For the last year, Northeast Wisconsin pet owners in need of emergency veterinary care had to travel to Appleton or further.
“I just lost my dog of 13 years last month, but in the last year of her life, one of my biggest concerns and one of my biggest fears was what happens when the unexpected happens? Where do I go? How long is it going to take me to get there and get the care that she needs?” said Bellevue Director of Community Development Andrew Vissers. “Our pets are an extension of ourselves. They’re our family, so we want the best care and we want care as fast as we can get it so they can continue to be part of our family.”
At VEG ER for Pets, families don’t wait in a lobby — triage begins as soon as they walk in the door, even before filling out paperwork, and pet parents are allowed to stay with their pet through all stages of treatment.
“Patients that are most critical are going to be seen first, but regardless of status [pets] will be evaluated by a veterinarian,” said Medical Director Molly Mason. “Within about one to two minutes of arrival, a veterinarian will put hands on your pet and verify whether or not they are stable and then put them in order from there.”
The hospital has an open floor plan that allows pet parents the freedom of movement and for veterinarians and staff to include a pet’s family every step of the way — regardless of “When you come to VEG, we prioritize keeping our people with their pets the entire time of their visit, which may include that you spend the night here with us,” Mason said. “We have couches in our exam rooms that pull out into a bed if need be and we provide some toiletry items and snacks and drinks.”
VEG ER for Pets is open for pet emergencies 24/7, even on holidays, and cares for “anything that fits through the door” aside from venomous sakes and primates.
