UWGB men’s basketball to play early-season home games on campus

Posted

GREEN BAY The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced it will move any scheduled men's basketball home game in November and December this season to the Kress Center on campus.

The decision was made in consultation with the health and safety task force on campus, university leadership and other health experts.

With the announcement from the NCAA pegging Nov. 25 as the start date of competition for men's and women's basketball, the department is preparing for its teams to begin play at that time.

"The Resch Center and PMI have been supportive through this pandemic and our situation," said UWGB Director of Athletics Charles Guthrie. "The decision to move on campus through December came from the recommendation of our health and safety experts, allowing us as a university, full control over all COVID-19 protocols set in place by the NCAA and Horizon League. This move will allow us and the Resch Center maximum flexibility to start the season, with the likelihood of game dates and opponents changing quickly."

With the NCAA starting date set, the Horizon League is actively working with its council on creating and formatting a 2020-21 league schedule, which should be released soon.

The total number of league games and official start is still to be determined, along with the overall format.

The department and university will reevaluate as the regular season takes place regarding future home games scheduled after Dec. 31.

The ticketing plan for this season will be determined in the coming weeks, following the finalization of the Horizon League schedule.
