ASHWAUBENON – The United Soccer League recently announced the cancellation of the 2020 USL League Two season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The league will spend the upcoming weeks working with clubs in areas of the country where it’s deemed safe to help facilitate regional exhibition schedules during the summer and fall months.
“The momentum our clubs have built in League Two across the country in recent years has been tremendous,” said USL League Two Vice President Joel Nash. “We will continue to support soccer being played when and where possible in 2020 and use this time to get stronger as a league and look forward to returning to competitive action in 2021.”
In 2019, the Green Bay Voyageurs began its first season at Capital Credit Union Park.
“We would like to thank our fans for their continued support during this uncertain time,” said Voyageurs Chief Operating Officer and Owner Conor Caloia. “Our fans have been there from day one. While we’re not sure if we’ll be able to enjoy soccer at Capital Credit Union Park this summer, we will return to the pitch together in 2021.”
The Voyageurs will continue to explore options to play meaningful and competitive exhibition matches this summer and fall, subject to local and state restrictions.
The club plans to participate in the USL League Two Heartland Division in 2021.
Due to the current statewide shutdown, the front office at Capital Credit Union Park is closed to the public until further notice.
USL League Two features more than 70 franchises in four conferences throughout the United States and Canada, including 18 clubs that are owned and operated by a professional club, or that hold a partnership with a professional club.
