Downtown Green Bay, Inc. has announced the return of Theatre in the Park, featuring a captivating outdoor performance of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
The free performance by Play-by-Play Theatre will take place Sunday, June 29, at 6 p.m. in Whitney Park.
Set against the backdrop of a summer evening, Hamlet unfolds the timeless story of a prince grappling with grief, betrayal, and revenge after the ghost of his murdered father returns to reveal a haunting truth.
This abridged, family-friendly adaptation retains the dramatic intensity and poetic power of Shakespeare’s most iconic tragedy.
“We’re honored to once again partner with Play-by-Play Theatre to bring live Shakespeare to the heart of downtown,” said Jeff Mirkes, executive director of Downtown Green Bay, Inc. “Theatre in the Park is about making the arts accessible—where everyone can show up with a blanket and be transported by timeless storytelling in a beautiful public space.”
“Events like this remind us how powerful shared cultural experiences can be,” Mirkes added. “Whether you’re a longtime theater fan or new to Shakespeare, Hamlet under the open sky is an unforgettable way to connect with community and creativity.”
Refreshments including soda, water, wine, and charcuterie cups will be available for purchase.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to make the most of this al fresco evening of drama and delight.
In case of inclement weather, event updates will be shared on Downtown Green Bay’s social media platforms @downtowngreenbay.
