Sweet Expansion

Sara’s Artisan Gelato brings authentic flavors to De Pere

Posted

Sara’s Artisan Gelato has been established in Northeast Wisconsin since 2018, and now it is ready to expand and bring its gelato to the larger community.
A new location will be opening in De Pere at 3131 Monroe Road, and it is currently set to open the last week of April.

Jonathan Santaga, co-owner of Sara’s Artisan Gelato shared, “We’ve already established a good community following in Ashwaubenon and love the fact that we are able to coordinate with schools in that area of GreenBay… One of our goals as a business is to be as involved with the community as much as possible in every way shape and form that we can… and we had a lot of customers of ours that were asking us to be on the east side somewhere… We knew it would be a good opportunity to be involved with the high school of De Pere there and have a lot of people in that area have access to our store, who otherwise wouldn’t drive across town for it.”

The new store will have a 16-flavor gelato case with daily rotating flavors.
“Amarena cherry is one of our top sellers and it is a very traditional Italian flavor, and Sara totally nailed it, also our chocolate chip cookie dough is one of our top sellers…” Santaga said. “One of our more recent ones like our brandy old fashion has been selling like crazy, and that was one we released for the draft, to give a local vibe.”

Sara’s Artisan Gelato started after the founder, Sara, received her culinary school degree and began working in restaurant kitchens, where she quickly learned she wanted to do something different.

She decided to go to Italy specifically to learn how to make authentic gelato, and soon after she went on to open her first Gelato shop.

Since the beginning, she has made all the gelato from scratch in-house and has put a large emphasis on using high-quality ingredients.

“Part of the artisan name, and Sara’s inspiration for gelato in the traditional aspect, is you use locally sourced fresh ingredients as much as readily available, so we source all of our dairies fresh from Lamers, and we try to do all the inclusions, like the cookie dough, salted caramel, the brown butter pecans, we do all of that in house… We also make our own mix. Sara developed her own recipe and so we make all of that in house,” said Santaga.

“I’m excited to see how our business does in a new geographical area... Sara and I want to continue to grow and make our business known to more people. We want to bring authentic Italian gelato to new areas, and hopefully create what we’ve created in Ashwaubenon in new communities” concluded Santaga.
