Shirley Ann Champeau, age 90, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at a local hospital. She was born November 28, 1935, in Coleman, Wisconsin and was the eldest child of the late Francis and Lillian (Mursau) Klasen. She was born with serious medical issues, and her parents were told she would not survive, but Shirley was a fighter. She went on to have a healthy childhood and was a graduate of Green Bay East High School with the Class of 1953. On May 16,1964 she married Glenn David Champeau at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Glenn preceded her in death on February 27, 2007.

Shirley enjoyed working various jobs including Miles Kimball, Century 21 Realty, Paper Converting and Associated Bank where she met many friends.

Shirley and Glenn lived for many years in Fond du Lac, before moving back to Green Bay. Shirley also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society.

Although Shirley had no children of her own, she was close to her many nieces and nephews. She always remembered their birthdays with a card in the mail and took great joy in doing things with family. Animals held a special place in Shirley’s heart, especially her dogs. She grew up on the shore of Green Bay and was always fascinated by maritime history and the big ships. She also enjoyed reading, traveling and brightening people’s day by sending jokes and comics. She loved her home and was proud of the improvements she made on her own. Shirley had a spirit of adventure and would surprise her family by riding on the back of motorcycles and jet skis.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Barbara Klasen and Lylas Peterson, friends and neighbors.

Besides her parents and her husband Glenn, she was also preceded in death by her younger brothers; Ralph (and his wife Faye), Roger and Thomas.

Over the years, she received help from Kevin Klasen, Kristine and Jim Sweeney, Steve Klasen, Kristine (Kippy) Klasen and her wonderful neighbors especially Todd and Karen Tremblay.

Family and friends may gather at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at First Baptist Cemetery in Pound, Wisconsin.

Malcore Funeral Home East, Green Bay is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank St. Vincent Hospital ER doctors, nurses and staff who helped us get through this difficult time. Also, a big thank you to Cornerstone Caregiving for helping Shirley over the last few years.
