Wyatt Dvorak is a senior member of the Bay Port boys swimming team. Getting a late start with the sport, Wyatt has been a key member of Pirates’ back-to-back Fox River Classic Conference championships and a good reason why the team is the favorite again this year. Wyatt is still undecided about where he will attend college, but UW-Madison, Arizona or Arizona State are possibilities.

Name: Wyatt Dvorak

Parents: Wendy & Jay

School: Bay Port

Sport: swimming

Twitter: @dvorak_wyatt

How do you pronounce your last name? “Da-vor-ack.”

Have you ever done any other high school sports? “Not since I entered high school, but before high school I played baseball. Now when I’m not swimming for the high school team I swim for my club.”

How about a sport you wish you could have done? “I might be doing tennis in the spring. One of my friends said he would swim this season if I played tennis.”

Have you ever played tennis? “No!”

Are you ready for the grind of four years of swim season to be done? “I think I’ll miss it a lot. I started swimming at the age of 12. It will be weird not having to go to practice, but I know I’ll miss it. I think I’ll try to swim on a club team in college.”

Speaking of college, what will you study? “I plan to study engineering and I will also be doing my prerequisites for medical school. I plan to possibly become a doctor.

It looks like the team is well on its way to winning its third straight FRCC championship! “When I joined the team as a freshman we weren’t a very strong team. It’s been nice the last two years and this season because it really shows how the team has grown. The whole team has grown together.”

Do you come from a sports/swim family? “Not really. My mom used to play volleyball and basketball and my sister played softball. I picked up swimming in 2012 just from watching the Olympics that year.”

What’s it like swimming for Coach Jeffers? “It’s hard! He pushes us to keep going and gives us a lot of hard sets. He pushes everyone and holds everyone to the same standards, no matter who you are. It feels like a team effort under him.”

What’s your favorite stroke? What’s one stroke you’re not good at? “I really like the Butterfly, but my Backstroke isn’t that strong and my Breaststroke is atrocious.”

Do you have a most memorable sports moment? “When we won sectionals last year, beating Neenah. I don’t think we were expected to win it – especially with no divers on the team – so that was very sweet coming out on top.”

What is something about you that most people wouldn’t know? “That I really like building things – I’ve built my own computer and speaker. I guess you could say I’m mechanically inclined.”

If you could have lunch with anybody, who would it be? “I would have lunch with Elon Musk – he is awesome. He founded the companies Tesla and SpaceX. Basically he was a founder of PayPal and when he got out of that, he became really rich. Why I like him is because of what he did with the money he had – he started these companies to change the world for the better. He finds a problem on the world-wide level and wants to fix it. It’s really inspirational seeing him take his money he made for some creative idea and change the world for the better with it. He has a good mindset on life and it would be very cool to sit down with him. I hope to become someone like him.”

Which teammate could survive on a deserted island? “Definitely Aaron Donovan. Aaron could survive anywhere because he is so strong-willed and persistent – it’s unreal. If he sets his mind to something, he will do it. It’s honestly astonishing and surprises all of us. He would have the willpower to stay alive.”

What are some of your hobbies? "I really like listening to music a lot, trying new things and hanging out with friends.”

Tiny house or tree house? “Tree house.”

Christmas or Thanksgiving? “Christmas.”

Bowling or the movies? “Movies.”

Fruits or veggies? “Fruits.”

Puppies or kittens? “Puppies.”

What three words best describe you? “Outgoing, hard-working, empathetic.”

How will Wyatt Dvorak be remembered at Bay Port? “That I share my ideas in class with other students and that I have a passion for learning and want to be there.”

Coach Steve Jeffers' comments: "Wyatt is a very unique individual and extremely smart. He has quite the ambitious goals that he wants to accomplish in life. There are times I'm expecting him to say one thing and he surprise me and says something pretty funny. He's come a long ways with his swimming for getting a late start and he's one of the senior leaders on our team."
