Name: Savannah Schmitt
Parents: Tim and Julie Schmitt
Activity: Volleyball
What is it like to be a leader on the volleyball team at West De Pere High School? “I love it! I remember when I was younger, I looked up to the seniors who played, and I wanted to be them. Now, I finally have that chance, and I’m excited to be a leader and set a good example for the younger players. Volleyball is such a fun sport, and my goal this season is for all of the incoming players to have as much fun as possible and that they learn to love the sport as much as I do.”
What is your most embarrassing moment ever in volleyball? “My most embarrassing moment is probably when we were doing digging drills at practice, and I got a ball slammed into my face.”
How many years have you been involved in volleyball? “I have been playing volleyball for six years now.”
What is your most memorable moment? “My most memorable moment is screaming songs at the top of our lungs on the way home from a game with my teammates, and then having to run the next day because we sang too loud.”
What's the hardest part about performing in a volleyball game? “The mental game. You have to tell yourself ‘I’m going to get this pass up and we are going to win this point.’”
If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? “I would be Selena Gomez because she is a really good role model and humble. She’s also super cool and inspiring.”
What is your sports routine before a big game starts? “I get all my gear on and then the team does cheers together to get excited for the game. Stretching and eating well before a game is important, too.”
Do you have a nickname or something a teammate calls you during a game? “It depends. Most of my teammates call me Savannah but during a game, Sav is a common nickname and so is Schmitty.”
What is one thing that other teammates or coaches don't know about you? “I absolutely love adventures of any kind-jet skiing, traveling, cliff jumping and hiking. Tell me about it and I’m there.”
Winning individual honors or a big team win? “I love a big team win. You can’t win a game with just one player. You have to work together as a team in order to win, and that makes earning a win that much better.”
What are your college aspirations? “I want to go to UW-Madison and study biology or biochem.”
What would your dream job be once you graduate? “I would love to work in a lab or a hospital and study diseases and the human body.”
What are your hobbies? “I love to read, watch movies, be outside, jet ski and spend time with my family and friends.”
What is your favorite event ever attended? “I love going to Packers games, seeing the team play and spending time with the people I go with.”
What is your favorite type of music? “I love pop music, but I’m also a huge fan of classic rock.”
What is your favorite thing to do on your phone? “Browse through Instagram or Snapchat my friends.”
What three words describe you? “Determined, friendly, adventurous.”
What is your favorite trip ever taken? “My favorite trip was going to Puerto Rico with my family during my sophomore year of high school. The country was beautiful, and we had a variety of adventures to go on. Hiking in the rain forest, visiting Culebra and touring caves made the trip awesome.”
TV or Outdoor Activities? “Outdoor activities. I love spending time outdoors and getting exercise.”
