Piper Linssen was a member of the West De Pere girls’ basketball team that went 14-0 in the Bay Conference and finished 16-6 overall.
She was one of only two seniors on an underclassmen-laden team.
Linssen shot over 40 percent from the floor and played a key role during games with Menasha and Seymour, scoring nine points and grabbing multiple rebounds.
What was it like to be a leader on the basketball team at West De Pere High School with so many underclassmen on the team in 2018-19?
“Coming into the year and getting the underclassmen into the groove of how we do things was a breeze. The only thing that I strived for this year was to have a team that all got along and had fun the whole season. Our team was very close, and we all built each other up. Everyone stepped up at times and became a leader.”
What was your most embarrassing moment ever in basketball?
“In practice a few weeks ago, we were doing a drill and I managed to slip and land on the ball right into my stomach.”
Talk about your family and how they've influenced you?
“My mom and dad are huge influences on me. My mom is a very caring person. She always puts others before herself no matter the circumstances. My dad is a hard-working guy. I look up to them a lot.”
What was your most memorable moment?
“Winning regionals last year was so much fun.”
If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be?
“Jay Alvarrez. He is a famous YouTuber who travels the world. He’s living the life I want to be living.”
Do you have a nickname or something a teammate called you during a game?
“Normally, people call me Pipe, but lately it’s been Sniper.”
Talk about Coach Abaray and the success of your team running through the conference undefeated.
“Coach Abaray is a great coach. He pushed us to be better every day and he’s a huge role model. We weren’t supposed to be where we finished in the conference because of the seniors we lost last year, but our success was caused by his coaching skills. This season was so much fun.”
What is one thing that other teammates or coaches didn’t know about you?
“My favorite snack is marshmallows.”
What are your college aspirations?
“I will be going to UW-Eau Claire and pursuing Psychology.”

“Dogs.”

“Suspense book.”

“Rap or soul music.”
