Senior Spotlight: Mason Ellis - De Pere boys' basketball

Mason Ellis is a senior guard on the De Pere High School boys’ basketball team.

Ellis, who is the son of former Packers player Gerry Ellis, is not quite sure where he will attend college but hopes basketball is in his future.

In this spare time, he likes to hang out with friends and play video games.

Tell me about your family.

“I have a younger sister named Caitlin who is a sophomore at De Pere, my dad grew up in Missouri and my mom is from Minocqua.”

Do you come from a sport’s family?

“Obviously my dad played football, but my mom played tennis at UW-Green Bay and Caitlin used to golf.”

Even though you weren’t even born yet, what it’s like having a dad that played for the Packers?

“It’s pretty cool. A lot of people ask me that question. I used to play football but not anymore. My dad played seven seasons for Green Bay.”

What would be your most memorable sports moment?

“During the AAU season after my junior year, scoring 25 points and hitting the game-winner during a game was pretty cool.”

How about a most embarrassing moment?

“During AAU my freshman year, I scored on the other team’s bucket. That was very embarrassing.”

Which high school in the area is your favorite to play against?

“I would have to say Green Bay Southwest. I know a lot of people from the school and we are always going back and forth about who’s the better team. They are a good matchup and having a great year.”

Does a favorite family vacation come to mind?

“We don’t do a lot of traveling, but when we do travel, many times we go up to Minocqua during the summer because it’s so nice up there.”

What three words best describe you?

“Fun, strong, independent.”

How will Mason Ellis be remembered at De Pere?

“I feel like I will be remembered as a good kid and a hard worker during basketball, and that I always had a good attitude and was positive.”
