How do you pronounce your last name?
“Just like the salad … Caesar.”
Do you have any siblings?
“I have two step-sisters named Jenna and Rachel and an older brother named Mac that just graduated from Minnesota.”
Do you come from a sports family?
“Very! Mac played football and baseball, Jenna and Rachel run, my mom and step-mom are big runners now and my mom played basketball. My dad was into baseball and football … he was really fast. My step-dad ran track for a few years.”
Have you ever done any other high-school sports besides track?
“I was really big into soccer when I was younger, but I also played basketball my freshman year at Bay Port.”
How about a high-school sport you wish you would have done?
“If soccer would have been in the fall and not spring, I would have done that. I really loved the game and it came naturally to me. If we had a high-school team, downhill skiing or snowboarding would have been awesome, too.”
The 200 seems like such a different race than the 800?
“I worked on my endurance this past year. Physically the 400 is harder for me, but mentally the 800 is. The 400 is only one lap, but I feel like I’m going to pass out after it’s done.”
What are you hoping for at the state meet June 1-2 in La Crosse?
“I really just want to enjoy it and get my times down. I’m ranked like 14th in the 200 – it would be cool to make the finals and break 26 seconds if I can.”
Do you have a most memorable sports moment?
“Breaking the school record in the 4x400 relay my freshman year at sectionals. We did it again my sophomore year at state – they were both very special.”
How about a most embarrassing one?
“I’ve never dropped the baton, but this year was the only time I almost did. I was put in the 4x100 relay race and our steps were off. Other than that, nothing really comes to mind!”
What are some of your non-sports related hobbies?
“Working out is a big one, but I really like spending time with friends, family and my dogs. When I have time I like to paint (abstract) and travel. We always do trips with the girls on my mom’s side during deer-hunting season.”
What are some of your favorite trips with the ladies?
“We always used to go to Chicago, but two years ago we went to Hershey, Pennsylvania. Last year we went to Savannah, Georgia … that was probably my favorite one.”
What kind of dogs do you have?
“A golden retriever and a coonhound-beagle mix.”
Flashback to when you were 10 years old … what did you want to be when you grew up?
“A professional soccer player or a major fashion designer. All my friends come to me for fashion advice.”
Talk about the recruiting process a bit.
“St. Thomas is D3, so they couldn’t offer an athletic scholarship, but I will be running for them … I’m not quite sure which events yet. It was between them and Bethel for a while. I like the university and the coaches a lot.”
What is something about you most people wouldn’t know?
“In the ball of my right foot, I have a broken sesamoid bone. They’ve been broken since my sophomore year and have been getting worse because I have a bunion forming. I just learn to deal with it. I need surgery, but I’m just waiting to see how it pans out. It’s painful some days and then other days I don’t even feel it. It wasn’t as bad this year as I thought it would be. I also don’t like popcorn or doughnuts.”
Finish this sentence … On Sunday mornings you can usually find me …
“Going to church or cleaning my room … putting away laundry!”
How bad is your room?
“It’s either clean or really messy. I try, but during track season my clothes don’t get put away.”
I hear you like kids?
“I really never wanted to be a teacher, but I’ve always enjoyed being with kids. I’ve worked at Bellin in child care.”
Puppies or kittens?
“Puppies.”
Black or white?
“White.”
Chocolate or vanilla?
“Vanilla.”
Tent camping or camper?
“Camper.”
Read the book or watch the movie?
“Watch the movie.”
