Have you done any other sports besides basketball and football? “Not since I’ve been in high school but I enjoy playing soccer on the side, just not competitively.”

How about a sport you wish you could have done? “If I could have started soccer when I was younger, I would have done that. I’m not very good at it but it’s fun.”

Let’s discuss football first…a disappointing end to the season, hey? “Being your senior year you want to make the most of it because you put so much time into it. We wanted a chance to play Kimberly and try to end their (winning) streak. We made it pretty far considering we didn’t have much coming back this season.”

Did you watch the state championship game with Kimberly against Sun Prairie? “I did.”

Was it hard to watch? “I know some of the kids on Kimberly so I’m happy for them, but they will lose at some point. I kind of wanted to see how they handled what happened if they lost. To win 70 games in a row is really something.”

You missed a few games in football because of a badly sprained ankle...fully recovered from that? “It’s been a reoccurring injury that I’ve sprained my left ankle five or six times, mainly from basketball. I’m going through therapy and have a brace now. Right now it’s good.”

What’s it like playing basketball for Coach Rykal? “It’s fun. He does a good job of being outgoing, energetic and relating to us. He has a good support of coaches around him and I like the practice format. I like playing for him.”

This team is loaded with talent…what can you do this season? “Our first goal is to play to best we can and up to our ability. In terms of conference we want to win that. I think we have the tools and players that make us capable of going undefeated in conference again.”

Do you have a most memorable sports moment? “I would say I like basketball a little bit more than football but when I had that pick-six in football against Manitowoc this past season that was pretty cool. I was pretty excited about that for quite a while.”

Do you come from a sports family? “My sister is (sophomore) Emma Nagel who plays soccer and basketball. Everyone knows how good she is. My dad was pretty small in high school and didn’t hit a growth spurt until college. My mom went to Hilbert and played volleyball.”

Speaking of Emma, she’s setting herself up for a pretty good high school/college career! “Yes! I know she really likes soccer and basketball but I think her number one is soccer. She aspires to play college soccer.”

If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be? “Michael Jordan just because I’m a huge North Carolina fan and we could talk basketball.”

Is there a teammate that should have his own reality TV show? “I’ll pick two…Danny King and Carson Schroeder. Those guys are like two peas in a pod and are hilarious. It could be the ‘Danny and Carson Show.’”

Which teammate could survive on a deserted island? “Garrett Mooren because he’s a smart kid and has a lot of common sense.”

How about a teammate you’d go with on a cross-country road trip? “If I couldn’t take the entire team I’d pick Danny King or Isaac Krause.”

Tree house or tiny house? “Tree house.”

Laundry or vacuum? “Vacuuming 100 percent.”

Lie on the beach or ski down the slopes? “Lie on the beach.”

Cats or dogs? “Dogs.”

Read the book or watch the movie? “Watch the movie.”

What three words best describe you? “Outgoing, friendly, intelligent.”

Do you have any bad habits? “I bite my nails instead of clipping them.”

How will Alec Nagel be remembered at Bay Port? “Just being somebody that is nice to everyone, was pretty good at sports and was a smart kid – nothing too crazy.”

What will you miss most about Bay Port? “I’m going to miss the overall general environment – all my good friends, teachers and coaches. Those connections you’ve made over your four years at high school.”

Head coach Nate Rykal's comments: "Nagel is one of the most talkative and best offensive rebounders we on the team. He not only is a great player but he also is a great student. It remains to be seen who the best player in the family is, though!"
