GREEN BAY - The Green Bay women's basketball team is Indianapolis-bound once again! Number one-seeded Green Bay crushed 10th-seeded Oakland to punch its ticket to the semifinal round of the 2025 Barbasol Horizon League Championships.
The Phoenix (27-5) improved its winning streak to 20 in a row, the first time it has reached that number since the 2012-13 season. Green Bay grabbed 42 rebounds as a team, the third-most in a game all season. Maddy Schreiber led all players with 21 points, while Natalie McNeal tallied 14. Callie Genke added 11 more, and Jasmine Kondrakiewicz finished just shy of a double-double (9 points, 10 rebounds). Bailey Butler, Cassie Schiltz, and Jenna Guyer had eight points apiece.
Oakland ends its season with a 9-22 record. Dani Grim led the scoring for the Golden Grizzlies with 18 points. Lianna Baxter and Macy Smith scored 11 and 10, respectively. Maddy Skorupski, Oakland's leading scorer on the season (16.3 PPG), was held to nine points. In three games this season, the Phoenix surrendered just 18 points to Skorupski, who finished second in scoring in the regular season in the HL.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Green and White got off to a fast start in the opening quarter, extending an early lead to 11-5 after a Kondrakiewicz tip-in. Guyer checked into the game not long after that and made an immediate impact by capping a strong first frame with a layup. Green Bay led 18-10 going into the second stanza and caught fire, shooting 8-for-13 as a team. Schreiber led the effort, scoring nine points. Guyer scored four more, and Schiltz knocked down a pair of free throws to send the Phoenix into the locker room leading comfortably, 41-24.
Oakland went nearly bucket-for-bucket with Green Bay out of intermission. The Golden Grizzlies couldn't contain Green Bay's offense, however, as Kondrakiewicz scored six of the first eight Phoenix points in the third period. Number 21 added a point from the charity stripe and Green Bay went into the final 10 minutes with a sizeable advantage, 64-43. The Phoenix was on cruise control in the final period, leading by at least 22 for the entire stanza. Miah Meyer added a late layup as Green Bay coasted to an 84-55 quarterfinal victory.
