MILWAUKEE—Hailey and Jordyn Rothwell have done it all for the Madison Edgewood girls' soccer team this season.

June 13 was no different as Hailey scored two goals and Jordyn tallied one goal as No. 2 seeded-Edgewood defeated No. 3 Notre Dame Academy 3-1 in a WIAA Division 3 state semifinal game at Uihlein Stadium in Milwaukee.

The Crusaders outshot the Tritons 11-4.

In the eighth minute, Notre Dame defender Sarah Hardwick made a great play on the Crusaders' Ella Henley to turn her away from getting a look from 12 yards out.

Just a minute later, Notre Dame’s Keighley Blindauer broke free deep in Edgewood’s zone, but a Notre Dame foul prevented a look.

Edgewood struck first in the 18th minute when Hailey Rothwell beat Tritons goaltender Alana Bergin with a quick right-footed scissor kick to give the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead.

The Tritons continually had issues getting the ball past midfield as miscues with ball control mounted up.

Notre Dame’s best look of the first half came in the 30th minute when Maggie Thilman corralled the ball in front of the Crusaders goal but was unable to get a shot through after Edgewood’s defense hemmed her in.

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Edgewood continued its dominance to start the second half by getting two early looks that were turned away by Bergin to keep the deficit at one goal.

In the 66th minute, Jordyn Rothwell took a feed from Ally Cruz and made a pass to her sister Hailey who ripped a shot into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders weren’t done.

They added another goal in the 78th minute by Jordyn Rothwell.

The lone bright spot for Notre Dame came with 2 minutes remaining in the contest when Jenna Cuene got loose on the right sidelines, made a move on a Crusaders defender and powered a goal past back-up goaltender Katie Ferreri to cut the margin to 3-1.

Emily Lin was credited with the assist for Notre Dame.

It was a small consolation prize for the Tritons, who ended their season at 13-7-3.

Edgewood will meet up with Catholic Memorial June 15 in the championship game.
