SUAMICO – The Refo Ramble, a fixture in the Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS) of mountain bike races, is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Brown County Reforestation Camp trails in Suamico.
As the only WORS race currently an option for the 2020 season, the opportunity for head-to-head competition in a variety of rider classes goes forward with some newly adopted safety protocols.
Online registration began Aug. 1 at bikereg.com.
“The Brown County Health Department approved our safety plan, which means the Refo Ramble is on,” said race director Scott Putman. “We’re following USA Cycling guidance and the county’s recommendations, and we’ll be relying on riders to do their part for everyone’s safety.”
Safety innovations include a “fastest out first” day-of-race schedule, multiple small start waves and a wide-open finish area.
“The camp has lots of trails, and the course loop will be longer, nominally 10 miles, to decrease rider density on the course,” said Putman.
Competitors will be required to don a mask for plate pickups, in the start-area assembly and for award pickup.
In keeping with published guidance, no water or food will be available, and racers are asked to bring their own.
Another WORS race, the Aug. 29 Treadfest in Elkhorn, is still in the works, and the Battle for Cam Rock is another possibility.
