GREEN BAY – The official newspaper of the City of Green Bay – has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
At the Tuesday, May 17, Green Bay City Council meeting, alderpersons unanimously approved awarding the legal notice contract to The Press Times – and naming us the city’s official newspaper.
Sounds so good, that it’s worth repeating.
Quite the accomplishment for the honey badger weekly paper that keeps on keeping on – covering the people, places, things, events and ideas of the Greater Green Bay area – even in the midst of doubt.
To be awarded the legal notices for the area’s largest municipality shows the work we are doing is noticed, appreciated and validated.
Once seen as a non-option, The Press Times dug in its heels, doubled down and continued to carve its place in this area as the go-to for hyper-local news and sports coverage.
De Pere made the move last year.
However, this is the first for Green Bay – something many have said would never happen.
Well, guess what, folks?
It happened.
By state statutes, municipalities are required to publish their legal notices in a local newspaper.
However, local governments have a choice with who they publish those notices with.
Green Bay now joins the cities of De Pere and Seymour, the villages of Ashwaubenon, Howard, Suamico and Hobart, as well as the school districts in Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, Seymour, Howard-Suamico, De Pere and West De Pere as municipalities that have placed their trust in The Press Times.
“We are, and have always been a publication and website for the community, locally owned by family and employees, which means we are fully invested in everything that goes on here,” Press Times Publisher Pat Wood said. “Our father, Frank Wood, who believed so much in media stewardship, would be so proud of all that we are putting into making Green Bay and surrounding localities a dynamic place to live and visit.”
This is not a responsibility we take lightly, but rather an honor we carry proudly.
We will continue to tell the stories of the communities we also call home and Green Bay’s recent recognition of this is proof The Press Times is here to stay.
