Pass It Forward internship program spotlight: Will Kopp

Spring 2023 participant

Continuing his education

I went back to school to UW-Whitewater to go into the electronic media field in the communications department, which focuses on video and audio production for radio, movies and other forms of media.

Whereas at Green Bay I learned about how to write stories and specialty pieces, here I learn how to take those stories and craft them into something that could be seen on the big screen through my own editing and production.

I work radio shifts on Monday nights for the student radio “91.7 The Edge” and spend a lot of time making connections with other communications students.

I actually recently made a promotions video for the College of Arts and Communication that focuses on their slogan of “where passions become professions” that was sent to the dean by a department head.

My time at The Press Times and in the program in general really helped to shape my love for the media space.

I was always into writing growing up, and watched plenty of podcasts, but it wasn’t until my internship that I truly started to appreciate media for the work behind the scenes.

The prep work for interviews, the way a story gets shaped, the editing process and that satisfaction at the end of every press proof really helped to shape what I wanted to do in my career. And with that hard work I received a second place award from the WNA Foundation, along with other employees of The Press Times, for Best Headlines.

I really enjoyed my time there and it was a great working environment with people around me that truly cared about seeing me succeed.
