NWTC hosts Digital Arts Showcase

Posted

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College held its annual Digital Arts Showcase last week, showcasing the work of graphic design, digital media, photography, print and web design and culinary program students.

“It really is an opportunity for all of our applied arts program students that are going to be graduating to showcase the skills that they’ve developed in their time here…” said John Reinders, associate dean of NWTC’s College of Business.

Not only does the showcase provide an opportunity for the community to take in the skills and work of NWTC students, but potential employers as well.

“It’s also an opportunity for our industry partners to come in the door, see our space, see what labs we have set up and, more importantly, see where the skills are at in terms of what they’re looking for,” Reinders said. “They may be looking for a videographer or they may need somebody in their marketing department to do some graphic design work. It is really an opportunity [for students] to get their foot in the door and make a first impression.”

But it wasn’t just student work on display at the Digital Arts Showcase — it was also the hard work and dedication it took for students to get there.

“They’ve invested a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money to go through this process to drive them towards a career that’s going to give them a life-sustaining wage and really impact the community as well,” Reinders said. “The faculty do a great job of driving the students to this point. They’ve given them the skills and the repetition to be able to now put them in front of all the people walking through and be able to speak about their work. That drive from the faculty and pride from the students is really impressive.”
