NEW LONDON - It was going to happen sooner or later.
For Sammy Opichka, it happened on the road.
The Notre Dame senior scored her 1,000th career point Dec. 7 early in the Tritons' 74-17 nonconference girls' basketball win over New London.
Once she reached the milestone, it was back to work for Opichka, who led all scorers with 21 points.
The Tritons ended the first half with a 20-2 run to take a 41-8 halftime lead.
The Notre Dame defense then held the Bulldogs to nine points in the second half.
Sarah Hardwick and Trista Fayta also finished in double figures for the Tritons with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
