Bellin Health offering COVID-19 booster
GREEN BAY – Bellin Health is now offering bivalent COVID-19 boosters for children ages 5 and up for the Pfizer BioNTech dose and 6 and up for the Moderna dose.
The updated booster targets two strains of COVID-19 — the original strain of the virus and the most widely spread omicron variants — and was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration through Emergency Use Authorization and recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“This bivalent booster dose more effectively targets the omicron variant, providing better and broader protection against the dominant strains of COVID-19,” Bellin Health Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Michael Landrum said. “Having this available for younger children is particularly important in what is already proving to be a difficult season for respiratory illnesses, and we continue to encourage parents and families to stay fully up-to-date with their COVID vaccinations as we prepare to enter the winter months.”
Bellin Health is able to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to patients and the public at Bellin Fastlane in Green Bay, Bellin Health FastCare East and West locations and Bellin Health Primary Care clinic locations.
DMV hours extended ahead of election
BROWN COUNTY – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will extend its hours to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 and Tuesday Nov. 8 to provide additional opportunities for those who need a photo ID to make it to a customer service center before voting in Tuesday’s election.
To obtain a Wisconsin ID, voters should begin at the DMV’s website wisconsindmv.gov/idcards.

If you do not have the required documents readily available, voters can utilize the ID Petition Process to obtain a receipt valid for voting by filling out the required application and providing any available documentation.
The IDPP service and ID card for voting purposes are provided free of charge by the DMV.
Anyone who does not currently have an ID but plans on voting in the fall primary election is encouraged to start the process of getting an ID as soon as possible.
WisDOT provides highway construction updates
BROWN COUNTY – Resurfacing work on the 14.7-mile stretch of WIS 96 from WIS 32 to I-43 paused for the winter on Nov. 1.
By the end of the $12.8 million project, which is expected to wrap up in the summer of 2023, new asphalt will be placed on the roadway in addition to recycling the existing pavement and improvements will be made to the roadway’s drainage.
The roadway will be open to traffic during the winter shutdown, including portions of the road that have been closed during earlier stages of the project. Construction is expected to pick back up in the spring of 2023.
Resurfacing work on the 9.1 mile stretch of US 41 between Norfield road and US 141 is also expected to shut down for the winter this week.
The project involves roadway resurfacing, culvert pipe replacements, overhead sign structures, base patching, guardrail upgrades and pavement marking.
US 41 is expected to remain open and all interchange ramps to remain operational during construction, with the exception of possible short-term lane and shoulder closures.
Work on the 15.5-mile stretch of I-43 from WIS 310 to WIS 96, which has been under construction since March 2022, is expected to be completed this month.
The projects included a bridge deck overlay on WIS 96 over I-43, bridge repair on Rockwood Road over I-43, concrete repairs on I-43, asphalt replacement, fence replacement, planting a living snow fence and pavement marking and cost roughly $24 million.
November is National Family Caregiver Month
BROWN COUNTY – November is observed as National Family Caregiver Month and it is estimated by the Alzheimer’s Association that 198,000 Wisconsin residents currently provide unpaid care for a person living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“November is a month in which we not only honor Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers, but highlight unique challenges of their caregiver experience,” Jennifer McAlister, Program Manager of Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter, said. “Caregiving demands are often greater for these caregivers and there are 4 key reasons why dementia caregiving is more challenging.”
Challenges to caregiving include a high number of hours required to care for someone with memory loss, disruptions to employment, providing and maintaining care over several years, and increased stress and personal health problems.
In light of these challenges, the Alzheimer’s Association reminds caregivers that there is support available.
“Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s is overwhelming for many caregivers here in Wisconsin,” McAlister said. “However, there is support and resources available including local support groups, education programs and our 24/7 Helpline. No one should face this disease alone and the Alzheimer’s Association is here to help.”
