PULASKI – Doug McElrone is the new head varsity girls’ basketball coach at Pulaski High School.
McElrone was the head varsity coach at Green Bay East High School the past three seasons, as well as the head coach for the 16U Green Bay Purple Aces.
McElrone will be familiar to some in Pulaski, as he served as the head PHS junior varsity coach in 2014.
"We are very excited to have Coach McElrone back in Pulaski,” said PHS athletic director Janel Batten. “Doug brings a love for the game, a passion for helping kids succeed and has a tremendous background in coaching basketball at various levels.”
McElrone replaces Jeff Charney, who accepted an assistant women’s basketball coaching position at St. Norbert College in De Pere.
Charney was the head varsity coach for five years, compiling a 76-44 record and four winning seasons.
“I’m excited to be back where I started and running a quality program,” McElrone said.
McElrone said he is already familiar with several PHS varsity players through his former junior varsity coaching position, as well as work with the Purple Aces.
“I’m excited to compete at a high level in a great conference against the top teams in the state,” he added.
He will be assisted by Kurt Holewinski, a longtime Pulaski-area youth basketball coach.
