UPDATE-Two more Ashwaubenon schools will be required to wear masks for two weeks due to an increase of positive COVID-19 cases among students.
ASHWAUBENON – Students and staff at two Ashwaubenon schools are under a temporary mask mandate for the next two weeks as the number of COVID-19 cases among students continues to rise.
Effective Friday, Jan. 14, and continuing through Friday, Jan. 28, masks will be required at both Pioneer Elementary School and Parkview Middle School.
In a letter sent to Ashwaubenon families Thursday, Jan. 13, the district said the 10-day average COVID-19 positivity rate at both Pioneer and Parkview exceeds the 2.5% threshold set by the School Board which would require masks for at least 10 school days.
Those with mask exemptions on file with the district are still valid, and do not need to wear a mask.
When classes resumed at Ashwaubenon Jan. 3 following the winter break, the district switched from requiring masks in grades 4K-6 to making them optional.
The School Board agreed Wednesday, Jan. 12, to reaffirm its mitigation procedures for COVID-19, which include switching masking from being “highly recommended” to required when the 10-day average of individuals testing positive for the virus for a specific school or district wide exceeds 2.5%.
