Lighting up Downtown Green Bay

Fire Over the Fox returns with largest fireworks display in the area

Posted

The downtown waterfront will be packed this Fourth of July as thousands gather to celebrate America’s Independence Day throughout Leicht Memorial Park, the Neville Public Museum grounds, Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge (Main Street Bridge) and City Deck.
“This event is always a highlight of the summer for the city and On Broadway,” said Brian Johnson, president and CEO of On Broadway, Inc. “We hope the community comes together to enjoy all that downtown and our beautiful waterfront has to offer, while also reflecting on the meaning of this special holiday.”

The full-day event begins at 3 p.m. and will include numerous family-friendly activities, live music, food and beverage options and more, including several new additions to the event.

New this year, Fire Over the Fox will feature an expanded and relocated kids area, including a dunk tank, waterslide and inflatables, in Leicht Memorial Park.

“There are so many things about this event that I’d say are can’t-miss,” said Mary Rhode, vice president of marketing and communications for On Broadway. “We’re excited for the enlarged kids area in Leicht Park. Its previous location on City Deck did not allow as many activities. Knowing this event is such a big draw for families, we knew we needed to redo the event layout a bit to accommodate more kid-related fun. If the weather turns out like it is looking right now, it’ll be a warm day and a perfect day for taking in the new waterslide feature in Leicht Park!”

The Sanimax Latin Stage will be back by popular demand and in a new location to accommodate larger crowds adjacent to the Hampton Inn at the intersection of Main St. and N. Adams St.

“One of the returning crowd favorites is the Sanimax Latin stage,” Rhode said. “This stage has
continuously been one of our most popular stages at the event. Now also in its new location, we’re excited to offer more space for the crowd to spread out, dance and enjoy the amazing lineup of music artists!”

A new stage located in the Neville Public Museum parking lot will bring the energy of the Levitt AMP series to Fire Over the Fox with original music artists performing throughout the evening.

An additional beverage tent at the Container Bar in Leicht Park will be added to the three existing beverage tents spread throughout the event.

The event will conclude at 9:45 p.m. with the largest fireworks display in Northeast Wisconsin.

“I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the fireworks as a can’t-miss opportunity,” Rhode said. “A huge thank you to Festival Foods for making the fireworks and this event possible! This musically choreographed show will begin at approximately 9:45pm and can be viewed from multiple locations including Leicht Park, Main St bridge, City Deck and Fox River Trail near the Hampton Inn.”

Those looking to enhance their Fire Over the Fox experience can do so by purchasing VIP tickets or tickets for the Best View in Leicht.

And for those planning on attending the event, Rhode offered a few words of advice to make the most of your day.

“Many attendees truly spend most of their day at the event,” she said. “Gates open at 3pm, with most live music beginning near that time. There are plenty of food and beverage options as well! We encourage attendees to dress for the weather and pack their sunscreen. Please also leave your pets at home!”

The Main St. bridge will close to all traffic at 7:30 a.m. on July 4 and will not reopen until the early morning hours of July 5.

Parking for the event will be available in the Main Street parking ramp across from the KI Convention Center with street parking available on either side of the river and several surface lots available in the Broadway District.
