ASHWAUBENON – Ashwaubenon High School performing arts students will present their 2019 production of the Broadway hit musical “Les Misérables” over the next two weekends.
"Les Misérables" is the world’s longest running musical – a modern classic based on Victor Hugo’s novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, "Les Misérables" tells a story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a testament to the survival of the human spirit.
The music of "Les Misérables" strikes an emotional chord that continues to thrill audiences all over the world.
The story centers around the life and struggles of Jean Valjean, played by Aidan Averbeck.
Javert, the unbending officer of the law is portrayed by junior Evan Larson; and Marius, the student revolutionary, is played by senior Elian Mejias Muniz.
Marius’ love interest, Cosette, is played by senior Emma Fischer.
Eponine, played by senior Madeline Miner, performs the song “On My Own” and senior Maezy Beams plays the character of Fantine, who sings “I Dreamed a Dream.”
Monsieur and Madame Thenardier, played by Sam Calaway and Kate Stenson, perform in the “Master of the House” scene.
Other cast members include Elissa Baenen, Keeron Blevins-Green, Luke Calaway, Presley Christman, Owen DeGroot, Emma Doran, Lauren Fischer, Calie Frewerd, Koby Harris, Bennett Herold, Dejia Hudecek, Rainia Hughlett, Tyler Kasper, Kennedy Kramer, Leigh Krause, Maddie Lasee, Alex Lukens, Lilly Marto, Sam Marto, Mia Miner, Greta Missbach, Aryelle Moder, Angelina Remondini, Brynn Schintgen, Sylvia Schubring, Javonn Smith, Viggo Sorbo, Luke Spika, Vesper Stanford, Zach Stenson, Christian VanIten, Daniel Wagner, Anya Weiss and Olivia Weyenberg.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 22-24 and Nov. 30 and 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center.
Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens, and $13 for adults. Ashwaubenon High School is a member of the 2019 Center Stage High School Musical Theater Program again this year, coordinated by the Fox Cities PAC.
Ashwaubenon performing arts students were recognized by Center Stage as an Outstanding Overall Musical Production for their 2017 musical, “School of Rock.”
Center Stage also participates in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards) in New York City.
This national program is designed to connect promising young performers to the professional theater industry and is the culmination of more than 30 regional awards programs across the country.
The Ashwaubenon musical is co-directed by Bernie Rocheleau (drama/tech) and Helen Marcks (creative/producer).
The choral director is Debbie Drumm; pit band will be playing under the direction of Marc Jimos; George Reynolds is the director of set design and construction; and Sara Eastman and Hayley Eastman are the choreographers.
