Lefebvre meets Larsen on the ballot for Green Bay District 6

GREEN BAY – The primary field of five candidates has been narrowed down to two.

Incumbent Kathy Lefebvre will face Stewart Larsen April 7 for the right to represent District 6 on the Green Bay city council for the next two years.

Lefebvre got the most votes in the primary with 192. Larsen was not far behind with 135.

The two outpolled the primary candidates Justin Paradise, Michael Lee and Paul Boucher.

District 6 in Green Bay encompasses the Bay Beach area on the east side of the Fox River.

The Press Times emailed each candidate the same three questions and gave them 100 words to respond to each.

Why should people vote for you?

Having lived 50 years in the district and 48 in my home, I have a good feel for the district.

I have answered hundreds of your concerns, questions and issues, helping in finding the solutions.

Finally, my experience and commitment to the district, serving two terms on the county board and one for city council.

I am grateful to be able to serve District 6.

What’s the biggest issue in District 6?

Flooding: The dike/flood control berm installed in 1973 to protect those living on the bay and extending to Eastman Avenue. That is half of the district.

I am working diligently on a plan to repair the damage from last year’s storms.

Roads/wheel tax: I will work with DPW to ensure that streets needing work in the district are taken care of.

Budgets: I am on the Finance Committee and working on a five-year budget bringing us up to the fiscally sound policies of Brown County.

What should be the city’s role in developing the waterfront by Bay Beach?

The city a few years ago set up a separate fund for the profits from Bay Beach.

This fund is used for maintenance and adding some of the rides.

The Friends of Bay Beach was formed to help with raising funds for the park.

The city’s role is to provide engineering support on projects and bonding for larger projects, examples, the boardwalk and pier.

Why should people vote for you?

People have encouraged me to run for District 6 because they know how much I care about our community and how much I want to be of service.

I want to be a representative who will listen to the concerns of the people, study the issues, and vote intelligently.

I have energy and enthusiasm to do what is right for my district and the city, and I feel my attitude of perseverance and positivity will be beneficial for such an important position.

I also feel my accessibility, ability to align resources, and my responsiveness to residents will be a strength.

What’s the biggest issue in District 6?

The top two issues I am hearing from residents of District 6 are concerns about poor streets/drainage conditions/traffic concerns, and the current status of the dyke that runs along the south shore of the bay.

Several policies have been created to address these items, and we need to ensure these are being followed in an effective manner.

We need a long-range plan to address these issues and to manage our finances accordingly.

We need to explore all options and make decisions that will provide the greatest results for both District 6 residents and the city.

What should be the city’s role in developing the waterfront by Bay Beach?

Bay Beach is a great place for families and gatherings.

The progress needs to be continued (keeping in mind Bay Beach is supported by revenues and various grants so there is minimal, if any, effect on the city’s budget and taxpayers).

The city’s responsibility is to continue work with the surrounding neighborhood and businesses to keep it a safe recreational spot, and to keep growing it as an attraction.

The city also needs to work closely with the county on plans to develop Renard Island into a unique piece of land to integrate and enhance the Bay Beach experience.
