Kickoff summer reading with the Brown County Library

Posted

Brown County Library will kick off its 2025 Summer Reading Program with a fun, family-oriented celebration on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Central Library, 515 Pine Street, downtown Green Bay.

Nationally acclaimed magician David Seebach will perform his fast-paced blend of mystery and humor with audience participation in the auditorium from 10:30-11:15 am.

He has appeared (and maybe disappeared) coast to coast as well as in Canada and Europe.

This free family event also features the costume character, Pigeon, star of the popular children’s books by Mo Willems.

Attendees will have the chance to participate in a group art project, scavenger hunt, carnival games, activities in the Edible Garden with NEW Master Gardeners and other hands-on fun.

The Brown County Summer Reading Program takes place from June 7 through Aug. 11 and encourages babies, kids, teens, and adults to spend time reading throughout the summer.

By completing reading milestones, ages 0-4 can earn a variety of prizes including a pass to The Children’s Museum of Green Bay.

Kids and teens can earn water park passes, Green Bay Rockers Baseball ticket vouchers, their choice of a food coupon, a pass to Library Morning at the Brown County Fair, a new book of their choosing, other incentives and entries into grand prize drawings.

As they track reading, adults will earn grand prize drawing entries to win one of an array of packages.

Reading for fun is key to frequent and successful reading practice and helps prevent the “summer slide,” allowing kids and teens to maintain and/or improve their reading skills while they are out of school.

The Early Literacy Program is for babies and young children who are just starting their reading journey — practicing early literacy skills creates a base for future reading success.

Participating adults will model interest in reading and spend quality time with younger children by talking about books and participating in library programs together.

Reading as a habit holds incredible benefits, including aiding in stress reduction, improving sleep and more.

The Summer Reading Program is funded by the Friends of the Brown County Library and Nicolet Federated Library System, and supported by many businesses and organizations.

Continue the summer fun with free family-friendly events at the Brown County Library all summer long.

Summer event calendars are available at all Brown County Library locations and complete program schedule and details are available online at browncountylibrary.org/events.

Adults are invited to celebrate summer reading with Pints with a Purpose at Zambaldi Beer on Wednesday, June 18, from 3-9 p.m.
Zambaldi Beer will donate $1 of every pint, to-go growler or to-go six pack sold on June 18 to the Friends of the Brown County Library.

Librarians will be on hand to sign adult readers up for the Summer Reading Program, where they can read for a chance to win fabulous prizes.

Adults who sign up at the Pints with a Purpose event will get their pick of a free book to get their summer reading started (while supplies last).
