GREEN BAY-The Ashwaubenon Jaguars baseball team lost a late three run late and got defeated by the Southwest Trojans by a final of 4-3 in eight innings (May 7).

Zach Huguet pitched four innings, gave up three hits, and no earned runs for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars took an early 1-0 lead through the first four innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Jaguars added to that lead.

Left fielder Will Adair started the inning off with a single blast.

He showcased his speed with a stolen base setting him up in scoring position.

Riley Siudzinski then connected on the money shot by hitting a 300 foot plus double that caromed off the fence at Southwest High School.

It sent Adair home and the Jaguars had a 2-0 lead.

A couple batters later with two outs, and Siudzinski situated at third base, Catcher Will Baeten stepped into the batter’s box and hit a chopper to second base.

It looked like for all intent purposes it would be a routine grab, but somehow the ball squirted through to the outfield advancing Siudzinski home.

The Trojans got out of the inning a few pitches later, but not before the Jaguars had increased their margin to 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Jaguars made a pitching change and brought in Griffin Baierl to supplant Huguet.

With one out, shortstop Jeremy Cox made an unreal grab on a Trojans hitter to rob him of a single.

One pop up and one strike-out later, the Jaguars had their shutout in-tact.

The Jaguars mustered one hit in the sixth inning but left him stranded after the Trojans got their third out from a ball just inside the fence line.

The Trojans then slowly mounted their comeback in the bottom of the sixth.

Josh Komis connected on a base hit to left, and Tyler Basten a double to center to bring the Trojans within 3-1.

Baierl escaped out of the inning after the Jaguars made two clutch catches to send it the last.

The Jaguars went quickly through the top of the seventh without scoring any runs setting up the dramatics in the bottom of the seventh.

After a walk put a Trojans runner to first, Nate Steinbrecher laced a missile to left to put a runner in scoring position.

A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third.

A pop out to left brought home the runner from third to make it a 3-2 Jaguars lead, and then with Ian Way up to bat, a pitch went wayward and the Trojans scored the tying run to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Jaguars loaded the bases after Cox walked, and Alex Dill and Sawyer Schultz singled.

However, Trojans pitcher Noah Schmidt got out of the jam and set up the Trojans heroics in the bottom of the eighth.

It wasn’t without controversy, however!

Komis led off for the Trojans and on the second pitch hit a blooper out of play toward the third base line.

A Trojans base coach stayed put and looked to impede a Jaguars defender from making the catch.

Seconds later, Komis singled.

Right after that, Schmidt found a gap for another hit.

The Jaguars intentionally walked the following batter loading the bases for the Trojans.

Could the Jaguars fight back and somehow salvage the game?

The question would be answered just one pitch in as the next Trojans batter was hit by the pitch sending in the game winning run.

The Jaguars will be back in action when they travel to Bay Port May 8 to take on the Pirates.
