The Ashwaubenon Jaguar girl’s tennis team took their 9-5 mark down to Kaukauna for a flighted tournament versus the likes of Menasha, Kaukauna, and New London. The Jaguars won Championships at 6 flights and finished the day with 40 points.

Marisa Marohl (#1 Singles) started the day off with two comfortable wins over Kiel and Shawano. In the final, however, she faced a tough opponent in Kate Christian from New London. Marohl and Christian both used counterpunch techniques to try to force the other one to make the error. During one rally, 41 groundstrokes were hit. In the end, Marohl came out on top in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 to capture the crown at the top singles slot.

Aubree Helstad (#3 Singles) had a bye in the opening round and then won her semi-final match with relative ease. In the final, Helstad offered up another comeback victory vs Auden Pearson of Kaukauna. After Helstad lost the first set in a seven-point tiebreaker, she quickly found herself down 3-0 in the second set and the Galloping Ghosts Pearson was gaining more confidence by the second. Helstad, however, remained patient and used her powerful game to hit more corners and force the action more against Pearson. It paid off and she turned the tables and captured the second set 6-4 to set up the shortened ‘super tiebreaker’ for the Title. Helstad came out with passion and flare and left no doubt in capturing the super-tiebreaker by a score of 10-7.

Sydney Zabel and Addy Francois (#3 Doubles) teamed up for the first time at the Varsity level, and made a huge statement! The duo didn’t show any nerves in defeating Jaiden Reimer and Holly Hayden in the opening round by a score of 6-0, 6-0. That was followed up by another complete whitewash in the semis vs Kiel. In the finals, Zabel and Francois continued their attacking style at the net and intense volleys in dismantling the Bulldogs of New London by (you got it!) 6-0, 6-0. The team went a perfect 36 for 36 in games played for the day at the Invite. The Jaguars will be back in action next week when they travel to Southwest on Tuesday, and host Preble on Thursday.
