ASHWAUBENON – The first round of interviews took place Tuesday, Oct. 15, to fill the village’s vacant public safety chief position, said Village Manager Allison Swanson.
In response to an open records request by The Press Times, the village has released the names of three individuals interviewed by the Police and Fire Commission.
They include: Michael Meeusen, chief of police in the Village of Elkhart Lake; Mark Garry II, an administrative lieutenant of police in the Village of Pewaukee; and Garrik Haynes, whose background includes being an operations sergeant with the Kansas City, Missouri, police department and also owning a technology company, Jobrielle.
Swanson said there will be subsequent interviews of the finalists by the commission and village board.
She previously mentioned the village is looking to fill the public safety chief position by Jan. 1.
The Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department has been without a chief since Eric Dunning retired June 21 from the department after 25 years of service and 12 as the chief.
Following Dunning’s retirement, Randy Tews became the interim chief of fire operations and Tom Rolling became the interim chief of police operations.
Both Tews and Rolling have previous experience of serving as commanders in the department.
After leaving the department, Dunning this summer became the senior director of campus safety at St. Norbert College.
Investigative changes
The commission also approved changes to the public safety department’s investigative unit.
Swanson said the commission approved a request from Jody Crocker to be reassigned from supervisor of the detective unit to go back to a regular shift.
She said Brian Amenson will assume the supervisor position of the unit on an interim basis until a new chief is hired.
