HOWARD – At the last village of Howard meeting held Oct. 27, fire chief, Don Phillips introduced their newest employee, Evan Bluma.

Bluma was hired for the new position of driver/operator for the department.

Bluma, known as “Bloomer,” told the board he was “excited for what the future holds for him in the Howard fire department.”

He thanked the board and said working for the fire department was a passion of his.

Before being hired, for two years he was a volunteer first responder and part time EMT for Gold Cross Ambulance. He worked as a fiber optic cable technician.

In his spare time, he volunteered four years with the Little Suamico fire department. He lives in Howard.

Chief Phillips said Bluma’s position was created because the department struggled to get part time workers during the daytime during the week.

Bluma will be spending 10 hour days with the department.

Part of his job is to make sure firefighters get to the scene in a safe manner.

He will also take care of maintenance and engineering. He will drive and operate the ladder.

Phillips said, “He is a man of good character and is important to the department.”
