Hilly Haven transforms into an Arctic skiing experience

Posted

DE PERE – Hilly Haven Golf Course recently transformed into a winter sports hub as the colder months fast approach.

Founded in 1964, Hilly Haven originated as a downhill ski hill; however, today it hosts cross country skiing, snowshoeing, fat-tire biking and golf.

Nicole Frank, who handles Hilly Haven’s marketing and operations, commented on their transition from a golf course into a winter sport resort.

“We were golfing last Tuesday and we opened the ski trails on Sunday. There was a very quick turn around of getting the groomers going and getting the trails staked. The weather changed very quickly for us but we want to embrace the snow as much as we can,” she said.

Frank mentioned how the need for winter activities helps make this transition especially rewarding.

“There’s a whole group of people who want to enjoy the snow in the wintertime and we’re happy to provide a space for the community. The crew takes really good care of the trails and makes sure they’re up to the best quality. We also have new equipment for the bike trail grooming so bike trails will be even better this year,” she said.

Another thing that makes Hilly Haven stand out from other ski trails is that visitors are able to bring their dogs along for the ride. Visitors’ pets are able to stay active while they are enjoying the snow themselves.

Frank also highlighted some upcoming events at Hilly Haven.

“We have a candlelight hike coming up on Saturday, Jan 3, from 5-8 p.m. The trails will be lit with special lights and a bonfire at the parking lot and halfway points of the trails,” she said.

A beer vendor will be onsite offering samples and Hilly Haven’s kitchen will be providing a special soup alongside hot chocolate and their signature cocktail drinks.

“We are a year round playground,” Frank said. “We’d love to see you there. Get a drink or a meal or even a game of indoor golf.”
