Hess named offensive conference player of the year

SUAMICO – This was a pretty easy one to predict.

After a stellar year where she has 37 goals so far, Bay Port girls’ soccer player Erika Hess (forward) has been named the Fox River Classic Conference offensive player of the year for the 2018 season.

Hess, a Carroll University recruit, added 12 assists for 86 total points. She was also named first team after her junior season and has a legitimate shot at taking home all-state honors as well.

The No. 1 state ranked Pirates (22-1) advanced to the WIAA D1 state tournament for the second straight year, but finished second in the FRCC behind No. 3 ranked Sheboygan North. North beat the Pirates earlier in the season 1-0 to finish undefeated in the FRCC.

Sophomores Emma Nagel, McKenzie Johnson and Alaina Abel were all named first-team.

Nagel (forward) has 24 goals and 23 assists for 71 points, Johnson (midfield) has 7 goals and 14 assists, while Abel (defense) was a rock in the backline for a team that has given up just 16 goals all season, and has recorded 13 shutouts.

All three were named second team in 2017.

Seniors Anna Gulan (midfield) and Alexis Brunette (midfield), and junior Grace Krause (defense) received second-team honors.

Gabby Noack was named honorable mention from her goalie position.
