ASHWAUBENON—Cooper Herr won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, and Nick Messamore the 100 freestyle and breaststroke, as the Ashwaubenon boys' swim team raced to a 110-64 non-conference dual victory over Oshkosh North/Lourdes Dec. 28 at Ashwaubenon High School.
The Jaguars won all but two varsity events and swept all three relays, with upperclassmen Joe Steffel and Spencer Klika contributing in a big fashion.
“I’m extremely happy with the effort and the victory this evening,” said Ashwaubenon head coach Jim Merner. “Spencer (Klika) and Joe (Steffel) are the heart of our team, our mainstay. They have been around this program and know what the expectation is in the pool.”
Klika anchored the 200 medley in a fraction over 23 seconds and Steffel was the third leg in a dominating 4-second win in the 400 freestyle relay to end the day.
“We have some important conference matches coming up and then I’ll know more where each one of them will fit at conference and sectionals,” said Merner. “These kids have been training hard and we have about six weeks to get them ready to hopefully achieve our goal of making it to the state tournament.”
Ashwaubenon will be back in the pool Jan. 3 when they travel to Sheboygan South to take on the Redwings in a FRCC dual.
