Heroes Club Bar Reunion with Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns

Posted

Heroes Club, a tavern which once claimed the corner at 401 South Washington St. in downtown Green Bay, was a premier live blues music venue from 1989 to 2006.

It was also a popular place for gathering after work, shooting pool and darts on the weekends and watching Packers games.

The Big Mouth Blues Band with the Power Tool Horns continued to grow in popularity by playing at Heroes Club after home Packers games and on weekends.

The band’s solid mix of old school blues, R&B and funk got toes tapping and feet dancing.

Over time, Big Mouth became the unofficial house band of Heroes Club.

Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns will play at the fourth annual Heroes Club Bar Reunion this Sunday, May 18, at Blue Collar Bar and Grill.

Barbara Coniff, Pat Coniff’s widow, is happy to see that the event has amassed a following that introduces new fans to blues music and provides an opportunity for longtime local blues fans to reconnect.

“It’s heartwarming to know that Heroes Club made such an impression on people that they want to see each other again at this event every year and relive the spirit they found with each other there. Pat had a larger-than-life personality that drew people to the place, but it was the friends they made, the great service from the bartenders and the quality of the live music that kept them coming back.”

After Heroes closed when owner/operator Pat Coniff sold the property, the location became the South End and then Molly McGees.

Coniff died in 2015 at the age of 67 and the building was razed in 2017.

In 2022, former Heroes Club bartenders Skinny Skenandore and Kurt Munchoff organized the first Heroes Club reunion at the Blue Collar Bar and Grill, after hearing from former customers who missed Heroes Club and wanted a way to get back together again.

The event is taking place Sunday May 18, 2025. Big Mouth takes the stage from 1-4 p.m.

While the reunion of friends started the event, it’s open to all of legal drinking age who appreciate live music and fun times. It’s recommended that you bring lawn chairs.

Heroes Club also has a private Facebook page, Heroes Club Revisited, started by former bartenders Kurt Munchoff and Lynn Heupel with almost 100 members who enjoy sharing photos, updates about friends and memories.
