GREEN BAY – Greater Green Bay’s Habitat for Humanity will celebrate its largest milestone this far on Friday, Oct. 3 — the completion of a 13-home development.
The group will host a “Block Party” to commemorate their accomplishments.
Established in 1987, Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization focused on practicing Christian principles through service work.
Since its formation, Habitat for Humanity has built 140 homes in collaboration with Green Bay’s local community, providing equal housing opportunities to 221 adults and 404 children.
According to Habitat for Humanity, nearly 700 volunteers donated 29,104 hours to this service work, with 15.5 million pounds of material being reused since 2009.
In recognition of their progress, the block party will feature Greater Green Bay’s Habitat for Humanity CEO Jessica Diedrich, Mayor Eric Genrich, a homeowner advocate, Habitat Homestead and other Habitat for Humanity representatives.
Bishop David Ricken will also provide a neighborhood blessing at the event.
The event will also unveil a community art installation and memorial benches, all leading towards a ribbon cutting ceremony to highlight the future Habitat homeowners.
Habitat Homestead, the recently completed 13 house development, was built in partnership with local families.
These families will receive a 0% interest mortgage rate on their homes.
With the completion of Habitat Homestead, Greater Green Bay’s Habitat for Humanity has built 153 homes since 1987 thanks to the contributions of volunteers, donors and local partnerships.
