Tell the city how to spend federal dollars
Thursday Oct. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 26—NWTC Corporate Conference Center, Green Bay (10/21) UW-Green Bay Phoenix Room, Green Bay (10/26)
In addition to a survey released early this month (which is available at www.greenbaywi.gov/COVID-19), Green Bay will host two listening sessions where members of the public will provide input on how they believe roughly $24 million should be spent.
The funds are a part of the American Rescue Plan (ARPA). Signed into law by President Joe Biden on Mar. 11, ARPA provides $350 billion to eligible state, local, territorial and tribal governments to aid in the response to and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
ARPA dollars do have strings attached. Eligible projects must focus on improving Low-to-Moderate (LMI) income census tracts within the City of Green Bay as well as initiatives that help small businesses and industries hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic in LMI census tracts.
The first town hall session is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 21 at the NWTC Corporate Conference Center (2740 W Mason St). The second session is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the University Union Phoenix Room ( 2420 Nicolet Dr) on the UW-Green Bay campus. Both events begin at 5:30 pm and masks are required. More information can be found here.
Is there “Room on the Broom” for me?
Wednesday, Oct. 27—Green Bay Children’s Museum, Green Bay
Storytime is back at the Green Bay Children’s Museum (1230 Bay Beach Rd) and with it comes a seasonal favorite.
Staff at the museum will read “Room on the Broom,” a children’s book by Julia Donaldson, author of “The Gruffalo” and “The Snail and the Whale”.
The story follows a witch travelling around a fantasy land who can’t seem to keep her wits, or personal belongings, about her and receives assistance from various woodland creatures along the way.
The rhyming storybook was turned into a stop motion animated short film in 2012 and features the voices of Simon Peg (“Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz”) and Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files,” “The Crown”) among others.
The storytime session begins in person at 9:30 am. The children’s museum will also host a live-streamed session on their Facebook page later that same day at 7 pm, just in time for bedtime. More information about the event can be found at www.facebook.com/ChildrensMuseumGB.
Psycho-punk comes to Green Bay
Wednesday, Oct. 27—Lyric Room, Green Bay
The Goddamn Gallows, a Portland based psycho-punk band, bring a menagerie of banjos, plucked strings, chugging guitars and booming bass to The Lyric Room (233 N Broadway) stage on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
The Goddamn Gallows pull from a variety of sounds and life experiences. The band pens songs about life on the road, its pitfalls and scraping by while crafting songs that pull their influence from bar-room skullduggery and back alley fist fights.
Their 2018 album, “The Trial,” mixes slowed, bluegrass songs into the equation while also combining an array of thrashing, fast punk hits.
The Goddamn Gallows are joined by Dig Deep, a folk-rock band from Stevens Point that focuses on gang vocals and melodic acoustic melodies, and Keith Daniel, a solo artist from Two Rivers who blends elements of electronic rock with stripped down blues rock.
The show starts at 8:30 pm and is open to guests 21-years old and older. More information can be found at www.keggersgreenbay.com.
