GREEN BAY – Last week, the Wisconsin Department of Administration announced its recommended Non-State Grant Program awards, selecting projects from a competitive pool of 257 statewide applications requesting more than $278 million.
With $50 million available, only a limited number of not-for-profit community development projects could be recommended. Final approval now rests with the Wisconsin State Building Commission.
Four projects in the Green Bay area were recommended for more than $2.2 million of grant funding:
Brown County Library: New Branch Library in Ashwaubenon
Total project cost: $9,024,700
City of Green Bay: Green Bay Fire Station Flats Apartments
Total Project Cost: $19,450,000
State Grant Requested: $2,000,000
On Broadway, Inc.: Green Bay Public Market
Total Project Cost: $21,885,934
State Grant Requested: $2,000,000
Recommended State Award: $168,700
Wello, Inc.: Cultivating Community
Total Project Cost: $1,563,000
State Grant Requested: $781,500
Recommended State Award: $468,900
“While not every deserving project could be funded, I’m happy for the recommended organizations, and I hope to see the funds approved,” said Senator Wall. “These projects will help make Brown County an even better place to live.”
“Thanks to Governor Evers, Secretary Blumenfeld, and the Wisconsin Department of Administration team for the support that’s been recommended for a number of local projects,” said Mayor Eric Genrich. “Each meets a unique need for the community, from public safety to community development to housing, and we’re grateful to our state partners for recognizing their worthiness.”
“Again, these four projects will bring truly meaningful benefits to our community,” Genrich said. “We’re supportive of them all and stand ready to assist however we can to move these transformational projects to completion for the benefit of our residents.”
The Wisconsin State Building Commission will take up the recommended list at their next meeting.
