ALLOUEZ – Former Allouez Village President Cameron McCain passed away April 9 at the age of 86.
McCain served as the village president from 1994-2004.
Before that, he was the town supervisor (1979-1986) and a village trustee (1986-94).
“Cameron served 25 years as a public servant here in Allouez,” said current village president Jim Rafter at a virtual board meeting April 20. “He was the town supervisor before Allouez was even a village. I know Cameron was involved with this community, and he was a member of the Optimist Club. He gave lots of his time, talent and treasure to the village. We are truly thankful to him, and we’ll keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
Odd and ends
The GRACE (Green Bay Area Catholic Education) Community 5-kilometer run/walk is scheduled for Aug. 28.
The event will support all GRACE Catholic schools and parishes.
Funds raised will be used to support school wellness program initiatives.
The event will begin and end at Resurrection Parish, located at 333 Hilltop Dr. in Green Bay.
The route will be marked with signage and have volunteers on course.
For more information, contact Gerry Faller by phone, 920-499-7330, or email gfallergracestystem.org.
“If you want to join, I’m sure the organizers would be more than happy to have you,” Rafter said. “They are expecting anywhere from one to 500 people. It starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon.”
Opening Day for Green Bay’s 15th season of the Miracle League is June 5.
Donations and volunteers would be greatly appreciated, said organizers.
Donations can help a local child with mental and/or physical challenges experience the joy of playing baseball by providing a uniform and scholarship.
The league is also seeking buddies, who must 14 or older, to mentor and assist each player on the field.
“It’s a great thing because it gives young adults and kids with special needs a chance to live life and have fun,” said Rafter. “It’s at Optimist Park (1681 Libal Street). If you want to put a smile on your face, go down and watch – or better yet, volunteer. They’re always looking for volunteers. It’s a great organization.”
